The Greek Goddess Hestia, or Vesta as she was called by the Romans, is perhaps my favorite of the lesser celebrated Goddesses. She is the firstborn child and daughter of Cronos and Rhea. Her siblings were Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. The myth tells of Cronos learning that he would be overthrown by one of his children, and so he devoured them upon learning of their births. Hestia being firstborn, was eaten first. After eating the others, Cronos was forced to regurgitate Hestia, and she went on to become the forever Virgin Goddess of Hearth and Home. She was known for having a gentle and mild personality which is something I really appreciate about her.
Hestia rules over the hearth fire, and the home, domesticity, and family, among other things. There isn’t a great deal written about her, and she doesn’t have many shrines or temples, but if you go digging on the information that does exist, you might find a kindred spirit in this one.

Pattern:
With worsted weight cotton yarn, using a US 2.5 needle, (Or whatever needle you need to get a good firm gauge), using the long tail, or the backwards loop method, cast on 37 stitches.
The first and last 3 stitches of every row, are k,p,k. Work in Seed stitch for 3 rows. (K1, P1, across the row, on both sides).
Begin the pattern by following the chart. On the right side, empty stitches are knit, and black or dotted stitches are purled. On the wrong side, Empty stitches are purls, and black or dotted stitches are knits.
I bind off in the standard way, but feel free to play around with it to suit your needs.
